The vast stretch of the coral reefs around the island has not only provided Mauritius with the beautiful beaches but also with the great diving sites. Diving in Mauritius in the northern region is always possible as the specific area is well protected from the winds. The slightest currents enable good visibility for the diver and also the night dives are possible.

Water temperature remains enjoyable at 26-30 degrees Celsius in the summer and 19-22 degrees in the winters. More of the times diving is done on the rocky projection or next to the fence reef. The addition to the beautiful marine life is with the large fan corals, flat corals and the soft corals.

Shipwrecks provide the home to a large collection of tropical fish which includes angelfish, batfish, soldier fish and squirrel fish. Also large number of unicorn fish can be found in the region. Diving can take you to meet, turtles, white tip sharks and the tiger sharks. One the eastern side due to higher winds and the rougher seas dives are organized on specific places and also they are weather dependant. During the time of the winter season high tides and string winds are expected.

On the southern side of the area swimming is not advisable, however diving can be a superb experience. Diving in Mauritius on the south side depends on the weather if the area with the disturbance in the visibility due to the presence of fine salt. Diving conditions are quite good on the western side of the island which holds mild currents ands acceptable visibility.
